ANNUAL
TROPHY DEER HUNT
Every year, the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA)
conducts three weekend bow and arrow hunts on Presidents Island. A
joint agreement with the City, County, Port Commission and TWRA,
has allowed Presidents Island to become a Wildlife Management Area
(WMA). The WMA designation is helping TWRA and the Port Commission
to accomplished two primary goals. First, to cut down on poaching by significantly increasing penalties and second to allow
proper deer herd management
The 3
weekend hunts are permitted through TWRA. The permits to hunt are
awarded on a lottery system.
There are two separate hunts in October/November and the trophy
hunt in December. This year will be the third year in a row that
the Presidents Island WMA has been the most applied for permit in
the State of Tennessee. As they say, a picture is worth a thousand
words. Below are some of this year's harvest.
